And also check out my tribute album to Ed Martinez that was released in September 2022.
The new album from Nick Wallisch is a tribute album unlike any other. Recording for the album began in 2021, and it was originally planned to be a collection of diverse instrumental pieces. Nick played most of the instruments, but all the songs feature Ed Martinez on lead guitar. Nick's dad, Chris Wallisch, co-wrote and plays acoustic guitar on five of the songs. After the first few songs were recorded, it became clear that the album was going be centered around showcasing Ed's fantastic guitar-playing abilities. But, in March 2022, as work on the album was wrapping up, Ed tragically passed away. So, now the album has become a tribute to Ed "El Champion" Martinez, and at least his guitar playing will live forever.
The song "The Legend of El Champion" is a new version of an instrumental song "El Champion" written by Ed and Nick and recorded by their old band Proteus in 2008. Nick added lyrics and vocals to the new version in honor of Ed, and the music actually morphs into the original version with Ed on guitar for last two minutes of the song.

“Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music.
Music is THE BEST.”
Don't forget to also check out Nick's 2021 album Awakening!
Released in July 2021, Awakening also features Ed Martinez on lead guitar. As one reviewer wrote, "Wallisch's experience shows itself all over this album. The parts are creative but also undeniably very technical. I think fans of the aforementioned bands [Zappa, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel] will appreciate this."
